Parenting Reflections: My Sensitive Child Hit, Spit, and Called Me Names -- Here's Exactly How I Handled It to Build Lasting Emotional Resilience
We’ve all had those days when we’re pulled in every direction, leaving little time to connect with our kids. In this week’s episode, I share a personal win: the story of my 3.5-year-old’s meltdown after a day spent mostly apart from me. Between school, work, and conversations with others, I barely had a moment with her—until her emotions came pouring out.
When those big feelings surfaced, I was pleasantly surprised to find myself staying calm and grounded instead of immediately feeling triggered. I drew on everything I’ve learned over the years to keep my cool and be present as she let out all her bottled-up emotions.
Sometimes, parenting wins aren’t about what we fix but how we show up in the moment. I was genuinely proud of how I handled this situation, which goes to show the importance of allowing our kids to process their big feelings without shutting them down. It’s a reminder that sometimes simply being there for them is more than enough.
